I’m Mark, a 41 year old long course triathlete with dreams of Kona. Well, every long course triathlete dreams of Kona right? In 2019 I turned 40 and decided it was time to tick the Ironman box. Having completed Ironman Wales in the September of 2019 I knew I had more to give and decided a coach was the best chance to get me there.
Having started my Ironman journey in 2018 I opted to follow a free online training programme followed by a paid online app based training programme. Whilst both helped me cross that illustrious red carpet, I felt I had more to give. I’d thought about getting a coach for a while but kept putting it off for a number of reasons namely, Could I commit to it properly to make it worthwhile? Would it actually be worthwhile?
After speaking to Richard at Raw, I knew I’d enjoy this journey and he was the coach for me. His approach to training is excellent and whilst I put pressure on myself to hit all the planned sessions, I don’t feel that pressure from Richard. He is always happy to discuss things and if I can’t make a session he will change it accordingly. For me, I wanted sessions put simply to me and that’s exactly what I get. I cannot speak highly enough about Richard and would have no hesitation is recommending him.
With no racing at all last year my focus shifted to this year namely The Roc triathlon in May followed by Ironman Wales in September. I can’t wait to put my training to the test this year to see where I’m at. Roll on race day. Bucket List Races: Kona, Challenge Roth, Norseman
